When potty training your autistic child, we want to consider anxiety during the process. We want to AVOID any strategies that will increase any possible anxiety. Your child already feels the pressure of engaging in a brand new, unfamiliar skill. The last thing that we want to do is communicate that they have to rush. Heightened anxiety = more likely to withhold and clench while on the toilet. I am usually a big fan of a visual timer but NOT during potty training! #autismfamily #autismparenting #
